Ultrasonic Baths
Ultrasonic baths can be used for cleaning or indirect contact homogenisation.
Ultrasonic cleaning is the most appropriate process for delicate items.
This cleaning technique uses ultrasound (usually from 15–400 kHz). Efficient cleaning is due to the "Cavitation” phenomenon, which generates a “cleaning bubble” within the solution with very high pressure inside (more than 1000 atm).
In addition, where direct contact ultrasonic homogenisation is inappropriate, ultrasonic baths allow gentle homogenisation (sonication) through the walls of, for instance, a plastic or glass tube.
