Description: ChREBP (Carbohydrate responsive element binding protein) is a transcription factor playing a critical role in the nutrient and hormonal regulation of genes encoding enzymes of glucose metabolism and lipogenesis pathways. It contains several domains including a nuclear localization signal (NLS) near the N-terminus, polyproline domains, a basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (b/HLH/Zip) and a leucine zipper like (zip-like) domain.ChREBP is ubiquitously detected in various tissues, with highest expression in liver, kidney and white and brown adipose tissue. Under basal conditions ChREBP is localized in the cytosol, translocating into the nucleus upon high glucose stimulation following its dephosphorylation of serine 196.

Supplier: Bioss
Description: FAKD3 is a member of a small family of Fas-activated serine/threonine kinase domain (FASTKD) containing proteins that share an amino terminal mitochondrial targeting domain and multiple carboxy terminal FAST domains as well as a putative RNA-binding RAP domain. The members of this family are ubiquitously expressed and are generally most abundant in mitochondria-enriched tissues such as heart, skeletal muscle and brown-adipose tissue. Some members of this protein family may play a role in apoptosis. The protein encoded by this gene interacts with components of the mitochondrial respiratory and translation networks. A pseudogene of this gene is also present on chromosome 5. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Description: Friedreich ataxia is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by loss of function mutations in the frataxin gene. The human frataxin gene maps to chromosome 9q13.The frataxin gene encodes a mitochondrial protein of the same name. Frataxin assembles into a stable homopolymer with iron-binding capabilities. When expressed in E. Coli human frataxin binds iron atoms at a rate of 10 iron atoms per 1 molecule of the frataxin polymer. Thus, frataxin appears to function in some capacity for iron-storage for the mitochondria. Frataxin may also function as an activator of oxidative phosphorylation to increase mitochondrial membrane potential and elevate cellular ATP. Frataxin is expressed in tissues with high metabolic activity including heart, liver and brown fat.
