Description: In order to perform a reliable raw fibre analysis, the sample must have a low fat content (<1%). For those samples that exceed this value, a preliminary fat extraction is required using acetone, hexane or petroleum. The COEX performs rapid fat extraction directly in the same glass crucibles that are used by the FIWE Series for the next satge of fibre analysis..

Description: XK empty columns are designed for liquid chromatography at low to medium pressure. The user friendly design ensures trouble-free operation with fittings for direct connection to high performance liquid chromatography systems. They are compatible with aqueous solutions and most organic solvents used in liquid chromatography of macromolecules. They are not resistant to acetone, ktones, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aliphatic esters and phenol. Should be avoided: >10% NaOH, >10% HCl, >5% acetic acid and strong mineral acids.

Description: The VP 220 is ideal for rotary evaporators providing the powerful vacuum needed for demanding evaporations without the use of oil pumps. VP 220 has built-in Advanced Vapour Management (AVM) which means precise control capability for the distillation of organic solvents and applications handling aggressive vapours and gases. The VP 220 is especially effective for rotary evaporation of low boiling point solvents such as acetone and ethanol and is able to rapidly strip DMF at 35 °C. The pump parts are all made of corrosion resistant materials such as PTFE and Kalrez to handle aggressive vapours, and together with vacuum adjustment, the evaporation process will be optimised. Use the vacuum adjustment to increase the vacuum until bubbles form in the evaporation flask - then lower it slightly. Reduce the vacuum for fast reaction to bumping or foaming.

Description: CYP2E1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is induced by ethanol, the diabetic state, and starvation. The enzyme metabolizes both endogenous substrates, such as ethanol, acetone, and acetal, as well as exogenous substrates including benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene glycol, and nitrosamines which are premutagens found in cigarette smoke. Due to its many substrates, this enzyme may be involved in such varied processes as gluconeogenesis, hepatic cirrhosis, diabetes, and cancer. This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. Description: Below 35 to 40 °C gelatin swells and absorbs approximately 5 to 10 times its weight of water to form a gel. Gelatin is soluble in glycerol and acetic acid, and more soluble in hot than in cold water. It is practically insoluble in most organic solvents such as alcohol, chloroform, carbon disulphide, carbon tetrachloride, ether, benzene, acetone and oils. Sterile solutions of gelatin stored cold are stable indefinitely, but at elevated temperatures hydrolysis or rupture of peptide bonds occurs, increasing the number of free amino groups. Gel strength and viscosity gradually weaken upon prolonged heating in solution above ~40 °C; this degradation is accelerated by extremes in pH, proteolytic enzymes and bacterial action.
