Silicone oil is used as a calibration media in temperature controlled baths in laboratories due to its good thermal characteristics and low flammability.
It is also used as active component in silicone grease, lubricants and heat transfer fluids. It finds application in cosmetics, hair conditioners and as a sorbent for the analysis of headspace (dissolved gas analysis) of food.
Viscosity ~ 40 cSt at 20 °C.
Caution: Incompatible with strong oxidising agents.
