Indocyanine green

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a cyanine dye used in medical diagnostics.

  • Extinction Coefficient (E1%): 10.7-11.6 (393-394 nm)(Lit.)

It is used for determining cardiac output, hepatic function, and liver blood flow, and for ophthalmic angiography. ICG binds tightly to plasma proteins and becomes confined to the vascular system.
Indocyanine Green is a negatively charged polymethine dye that forms noncovalent fluorescent complexes with proteins. This "pseudofluorogenic" property has been utilized for protein determination by capillary electrophoresis with diode laser-induced fluorescence detection. ICG is a fluorescent dye which is used in medicine as an indicator substance (e.g. for photometric hepatic function diagnostics and fluorescence angiography) in cardiac, circulatory, hepatic and ophthalmic conditions. It has been used to resolve several labeled proteins including: human serum albumin, ribonuclease A, transferrin, and cytochrome c.
