Collagen VI, Corning®
A large, multidomain, extracellular matrix (ECM) protein that assembles into a microfibrillar network via tetramerization and end-to-end association. The unique structure and expression compared with other ECM molecules indicate that collagen VI may fulfill specialized tasks in tissue organization and cell functioning. The source material for this protein is human placenta that has been tested for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAG), antibody to hepatitis C (anti-HCV-1 and -2) and antibody to HIV (anti-HIV-1 and -2). The collagen is also tested to be electrophoretically homogeneous by SDS-PAGE, as well as free from bacteria, fungi, and mycoplasma. It is shipped frozen in 100mM borate buffer at a pH of 8.0. The collagen is stable for at least three months at –20°C (–4 °F) if multiple freeze-thaw cycles are avoided.
