Spectral Grade Formamide is used as a denaturant in hybridization and electrophoresis applications. Formamide is used to denature DNA and RNA. It separates the two strands of the double helix.
Formamide is supplied distilled, deionized and packaged under nitrogen
The purity of IBI formamide is determined by way of gas chromatography. Store at +4C in the dark and warm to room temperature prior to opening.
When exposed to oxygen, formamide breaks down into formic acid and ammonia, which can degrade nucleic acid samples. Bottles that have been opened and stored should be deionized prior to use by mixing 1gm of mixed bed resin per 10ml of formamide for 30 minutes.
