Liqui-Gel™ 37:5:1 is a solution prepared from electrophoresis grade acrylamide and bis-acrylamide in ultra-pure water.
Liqui-gel is a 40% (w/v) solution of ultra pure acrylamide (38,96%) and bis-acrylamide (1,04%) in specially-prepared deionised water. Final ratio is 37,5:1. Acrylamide decomposes in the presence of acids, bases, oxidising agents, iron, and iron salts. It decomposes non-thermally to form ammonia, and thermal decomposition produces carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and oxides of nitrogen.
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is a versatile method of separation, characterisation, and analysis of nucleic acids, proteins and other charged materials. The gels are formed by the polymerisation of the acrylamide monomer with a co-monomer, often N,N'-Methylene-bis-acrylamide, which acts as a cross-linking agent, in the presence of free radicals or a photochemical initiator. It has many other uses in molecular biology laboratories, including the use of linear polyacrylamide (LPA) as a carrier, which aids in the precipitation of small amounts of DNA. Liqui-Gel™ 37,5:1 was used for Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analyses following PCR amplification step of a 500 bp region of the 16S-rRNA gene.
