PhastSystem is a multi-tasking, semi-automated electrophoresis workstation that runs up to two gels, under the same conditions within a separation and control unit, while staining up to two gels in a development unit. PhastSystem consists of a separation-control unit for system control and electrophoresis, and a development unit for gel staining. The optional PhastTransfer Kit quickly converts the system into a semi-dry blotting unit. Electrophoresis is performed on a thermostatic plate capable of maintaining temperatures accurately from 0 to 70 °C. Multistep programming capability allows gels to be prerun, loaded, and run automatically. Controlled parameters include temperature, voltage, current, power, and volt-hours. The stainless steel development unit is capable of processing two gels simultaneously at temperatures from ambient to 50 °C. Up to nine different reagents can be used in a single processing program. The combination of PhastSystem with PhastGels and buffer strips provides an integrated system of unsurpassed quality, flexibility, and reproducibility with a minimum of manual involvement. A substantial list of applications testifies to the utility of PhastSystem.
- Automatically separate and stain proteins under controlled power and temperature conditions
- Program and store nine separation protocols of nine steps each, and nine staining protocols of 20 steps each
- Regulate gel temperature through Peltier-controlled support bed
- Assure reproducibility with quality-tested precast gels, buffer strips, and staining kits
- Short-circuit protection; protected against power disturbances and static discharges; lid power interlock and alarm
